Man Named Kim

Essays, poetry, and fiction driven by the lovely mess of being human.

Welcome

I write from the experience of being alive.

Sometimes that becomes an essay. Sometimes a poem. Sometimes a story about an immortal woman who has been waiting a very long time for someone to come home.

The subjects wander: love and loss, recovery and aging, faith and doubt, desire, memory, joy, absurdity, and whatever else life puts in front of me.

I’m less interested in having answers than in paying attention.

A fascinating study of humanity set in a supernatural tale
— Mark C.

The Gift

A supernatural novel about love, grief, identity—and the complicated nature of choosing.

Cam thought he was escaping to the quiet hills of North Carolina. Instead, he found Angela: a woman who seems to know him, has been waiting for him, and carries a past neither of them can escape.

The Gift is a gothic supernatural romance about the strange threads that bind us to one another—and what happens when love, longing, memory, and consent refuse to stay simple.

About Kim

I’ve been a minister, a marketer, a consultant, a husband, a father, a recovering addict, a hiker, and—through all of it—a writer.

I’ve spent enough years being alive to know that the interesting parts rarely fit into neat categories.

So I write about what I notice.

"This book is different, and quite often delightful. Who could fail to sport at least a wry smile at the writer's then-four-year-old nephew as he offers his very own spin on saying grace: "God is grape, God is good. Let us spank him for our food"?...
